May 3 competition
The MacLaren Rubik's Club will compete at the Southern Colorado Regional Tournament in Monument on Wednesday, May 3. We will have a short practice after school and then leave at 4pm. I will send home a permission slip, but I wanted to give you advance notice. Also, I need two parents to drive and help chaperone the event, especially since I coach a team from the school at which I teach, as well. I will be going back and forth between the teams, assuring everyone is in their correct spots for team and solo competitions. Please put the date on your calendar, and let me know if you are available to chaperone.
Rubik's Club restarts Feb. 6!
Rubik's club will kick off the spring semester on Monday, February 6, from 3:40- 4:30, and we'll meet weekly at that same time. We are already registered for the regional competition on May 3, and we will have a scrimmage with another school in March (TBD). Remind your students who bring their own cubes to keep them in their backpacks or lockers during classes so we can stay in the good graces of the teachers!
January 28 Competition?
We have the opportunity to participate in a Rubik's competition at Timberview Middle School on Saturday, January 28, from 9am- 12:30. I need to get the number of available students so that I can sign us up by next Tuesday. Please reply to me with your student's availability (either yes or no) by Monday, December 12. I also need a couple of parents who are available for all or part of that time. Please indicate in that email if you are available.
This tournament will be teams of 6 rather than 8, as our past competitions have been, solving a total of 19 cubes. (I am checking on the availability of Hunter participating with my other school on the high school team.) A solo competition will be available as well for those who can solve in under 2 minutes.
End of Rubik's Club for semester, 11/14
We have completed our fall introductory session for Rubik's Club. Several students who did not know how to solve the cube have made great progress, and those who could solve are improving their times. We will restart late in January, when we will begin preparing for scrimmages and the final competition the first week in May. Have a great Thanksgiving!
